On behalf of the QELA Management Committee and QELA Conference Sub Committee, thank you to all those who participated in the 2017 QELA Conference, held Wednesday 10 May to Friday 12 May at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Hotel.
The theme for this year’s Conference wass “Capture the Moment”. In what marks QELA’s 30th anniversary year, it seemed appropriate that the 2017 Conference reflected “moments” that have shaped or will shape Queensland’s planning and environment landscape. Thank you to our speakers for whole-heartedly embracing this theme.
In total, 197 delegates attended over the three days of sessions featuring 33 session speakers and two keynotes speakers. Feedback from the delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with the The Great QELA Debate, the Pecha-Kucha styled Snappy Chats session and closing keynote by Kurt Fearnley being crowd favourites.
Thank you to our sponsors, many of them ongoing supporters of QELA, for their contribution. It is through their sponsorship that QELA is able to continue to improve the conference offerings. In particular, our thanks to the 2017 Gold Sponsor, City of Gold Coast; Silver Sponsor, McCullough Robertson Lawyers; and Bronze Sponsor, Gondwana Ecology.
Finally, the annual conference is convened each year by a committee of members who volunteer their time to curate the theme and manage the sessions. My thanks to Conference Committe Chair and QELA Vice President, Brent Lillywhite, for his time in coordinating this year’s conference, and committee members: Simon Pollock, Tim Stork, Amy Schmidt, Hannah Riggs, Lauren Turner, Keith Wiley, Kerrie Brown, and James Ireland.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Conference, to be held 23 – 25 May 2018 at Sheraton Gold Coast.
